What a repair does

Why get windshield chip repair in Norfolk?

Chip repair: before and after

Stops it spreading

Cold mornings and potholes can turn a small chip into a long crack.

The view through a clean windshield down a straight country road between fields

Keeps the glass strong

The resin fills the break and bonds it, so the glass holds together.

Much clearer

Most chips are far harder to see once they are filled.

Costs less than new glass

A repair costs far less than replacing the windshield.

How it works

How windshield chip repair works

We clean out the chip, fill it with a clear resin under pressure and cure it with UV light. The resin bonds the broken glass back together.

A repair works best on small chips, about the size of a quarter, that are not right at the edge of the glass. Long cracks, or damage right in front of the driver, may need a new windshield.

Bumps in the road and swings between hot and cold days can turn a small chip into a long crack, so the sooner it is filled, the better the result.

  • Come in soon — dirt and water make a chip harder to repair
  • Cover the chip with clear tape until you get here
  • Some insurance policies cover chip repair: ask your insurer
  • Ask us to check any other chips on the glass while your car is with us

Questions

Windshield chip repair questions

Can every chip be repaired?

Most small chips can. Long cracks, chips at the very edge of the glass and damage right in front of the driver may need a new windshield. We will tell you before we start.

Will the chip disappear?

It will be much clearer, but you may still see a small mark where it was.

Does insurance pay for chip repair?

Some policies cover it. Check with your insurer before you come in.

How long does a repair take?

The repair itself is quick. Drop your car off at our shop and we tell you when it is ready to collect.

What should I do until I get it fixed?

Put a piece of clear tape over the chip to keep dirt and water out, and avoid blasting the defroster on it.

Can you protect my windshield after the repair?

Yes. Ask about clear windshield protection film or a rain-repellent windshield coating, both fitted at our Norfolk shop.
